Clinical effects of Kneipp hydrotherapy: a systematic review of randomised controlled trials
BMJ Open. 2023 Jul 9;13(7):e070951. doi: 10.1136/bmjopen-2022-070951.
Physicians from Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin and other institutions have examined the scientific evidence for Kneipp hydrotherapy in a comprehensive systematic review.
An analysis of 20 randomized controlled trials (RCTs) published in the journal BMJ Open shows that cold water applications and other Kneipp therapy measures could have positive effects on conditions such as chronic venous insufficiency, menopausal symptoms, and even on reducing sick days. However, the authors emphasize that due to methodological shortcomings and the heterogeneity of the studies examined, further high-quality RCTs are needed to definitively prove the therapeutic effects.
